Hello MGWA members! My name is Amanda Yourd, and I am excited to be joining the MGWA board as Vice President. I have been working as a hydrogeologist in the Groundwater Technical Analysis Unit at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for the past six years. My focus at DNR is protecting drinking water supply and making sure there is water for future generations. Before I started in my current position, I worked at the DNR in water permitting and at the University of Minnesota in a lake sediment research lab. I have a Bachelor’s in Geology from Carleton College and a Master’s in Hydrogeology with a minor in Water Resources Sciences from the University of Minnesota.

Outside of work, I like to dance in a clogging group, play basketball, and work on overly ambitious knitting projects. I am also a big Minnesota Lynx fan and spend a lot of time in the summer going to WNBA games.
I really enjoy working with students and am looking forward to more student and early career involvement in MGWA. I hope to meet you all over the next couple of years, so please feel free to reach out any time to introduce yourself and share your ideas about what you would like the future of MGWA to look like.
