Q: Talk a little bit about your role and professional background.
A: I manage the Environmental Assessment Program and administer the Environmental Assessment and Remediation Grant program at Dakota County. The programs were developed to assist with brownfield redevelopment and contamination identification and mitigation throughout the county. I lead the emerging contaminant workgroup at the county which was formed to conduct research, education, and monitoring of emerging issues in groundwater and surface water. I am a PG and have spent my professional career in assessing and mitigating environmental issues in public service and private consulting.
Q: What made you interested in groundwater?
A: I grew up in lake country in northern Minnesota, attended UofM Duluth, graduated with a degree in geology and have always had a connection with water and rocks. The environmental consulting arena was just starting when I started my career, it was a good fit. I have followed a path that allowed me to use my education in an area that also was important to me and hopefully improved our environment and protected our water.
Q: What inspired you to join the board?
A: I have been a member of MGWA for many years, I agreed to reestablish and chair the Education Committee after working on the 2016 White Paper and to honor a request from Gil Gabanski. That led to a request to join the board and bring my commitment to water and MGWA to the next level. I am at a stage in my career to be able to give back and give forward, to share, to mentor, to reflect and to support the next generation of water professionals.
Q: Favorite place in Minnesota?
A: I have two favorites – Potato Lake and Duluth.
Q: Fun fact about yourself?
A: I play competitive women’s hockey.
Q: Interests/favorite hobbies outside of groundwater?
A: Water is a part of my work, play and life. In the summer you will find me on the lake and in winter you will find me on the snow and ice. I like to ski, skate, snowmobile and boat especially with my boys.
