Q: Talk a little bit about your role and professional background.
A: I am a supervisory hydrologist with the US Geological Survey. I lead a team of bright groundwater enthusiasts who work on local and national projects examining groundwater use, quality, and availability. Our team uses a combination of field studies, data aggregation, and modeling to generate information for understanding and managing groundwater resources.
Q: What made you interested in groundwater?
A: Great question! It has an element of mystery around it and yet it is so vital for our survival; this potent combination drew me in.
Q: What inspired you to join the board?
A: Threats from Eric Bunge 🙂. MGWA is a wonderful community of professionals with a passion for understanding and protecting Minnesota’s vital groundwater resources. I’m excited to volunteer my time to work with this community to promote and encourage groundwater science in Minnesota.
Q: Favorite place in Minnesota?
A: Any place away from phone and computer and I think it varies seasonally. Winter-any cross country ski trail that has snow, Spring-in the woods to see the spring flowers blooming, Summer-water bodies with hungry fish and no mosquitoes, and Fall-in the woods where leaves are turning colors.
Q: Fun fact about yourself?
A: I am a former snow sculptor who participated for nearly 20 years in the MN State Snowsculpting Competition most recently held at the state fairgrounds. My favorite sculpture that my team did was a chicken guarding a newly hatched chick.
Q: Interests/favorite hobbies outside of groundwater?
A: Raising kids, gardening, grain farming with 1970s era farm equipment, doing anything outside-sports, hikes, camping, fishing, hunting, cross country skiing.
