Minnesota Ground Water Association

Volunteers Needed for Screening Well-Water Quality

by Jeff Stoner, MGWA Education Committee

Hello MGWA Members,
As you may be aware from past Newsletter issues and announcements at MGWA Conferences, your Education Committee has been busy working with the Minnesota Well Owners Organization in participating in well-water screening clinics for private well owners across Minnesota. As schedules for these clinics solidify, we will be announcing “opportunities” for you to participate (see chart below). We think this is a great outreach effort that fits the MGWA mission.

Typical Onsite Clinic Jobs

  • Check-in and water-sample registration–Explain the water clinic process to well owners.
  • Screening services—Calibrate and run owner-collected samples for basic chemical indicators. Record results for consultation with owner.
  • Consultation and interpretation of results with Private Well Owner –Review the hydrogeological conditions, any previous analytical results for the geographic area, and review testing results and any analytical results that the well owner has brought to the testing clinic. Make recommendations to the well owner regarding follow up testing for analytes using a certified laboratory that could help them further understand the potential contaminants that may impact their drinking water.
  • Complete an evaluation form documenting your clinic experience.

See the schedule to date for this summer and contact Bruce Olsen (sawdust2013@gmail.com), Jeff Stoner (J_Stoner@comcast.net), or Paul Wotzka (paul.wotzka@MNWOO.org) to sign up. A bonus will be a fine volunteer tee shirt.

Thank you on behalf of the MGWA Education Committee.
